Welcome address

Dear visitors to the Primorsky Aquarium,

The idea of creating the largest aquarium in Russia, the one that would integrate scientific and educational activities, in Vladivostok originated with Vladimir L. Kasyanov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He presented the idea to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir V. Putin, when the latter visited Vladivostok in 2004. Today, that idea has been fully realized: the Primorsky Aquarium is not only the largest scientific and educational complex in the country, but also a leading institution for environmental education and raising awareness among people in the Russian Federation. The Aquarium offers visitors a glimpse into a fragile underwater world that is generally inaccessible to the human eye — a world of remarkable diversity and wonder. We teach visitors to appreciate, protect, and admire its beauty.

Every visitor to the Aquarium can learn a lot here: about sessile animals and motile plants; about microscopic unicellular algae that function as the lungs of the Earth and much more. They can observe the extraordinary beauty of corals and tropical fish up close.

Science, education, and public outreach constitute the three pillars upon which the Primorsky Aquarium rests. Rigorous research is being conducted here, enabling the creation of optimal conditions for more than 15,000 animals.

Today, the Primorsky Aquarium serves as a hub for tourists, researchers from across the country, as well as for schoolchildren and students from educational institutions throughout the Primorye region.

The mission of the Primorsky Aquarium: By combining research and education, to inspire people to study and conserve marine life for present and future generations.

We are always glad to welcome you. See you all soon!
