The Primorsky Aquarium honored the contribution of scientists from the Russian Far East to the defeat of the enemy by conducting themed tours from May 6 to 11.
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Aquarium educators developed a special thematic tour entitled «Memories of the fiery years».
The tour included exhibits exploring the Russian Arctic and Russia’s Far Eastern waters such as the Amur River, Lake Baikal, the Bering Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan (East Sea).
Visitors learned about the war efforts of scientists from the Russian Far East -- both those who had fought on the battlefield and those who had been home front workers.
During the war the Russian Far East was a crucial supplier of fish and seafood to the Soviet army. To combat shortages in the food and medical industries, specialized technologies were developed that helped substitute marine products for scarce raw materials. Local meteorologists and oceanologists provided navy and merchant sailors with accurate weather forecasts and detailed information on ice conditions.
The significant section of the tour explored activities of the training detachment of the Black Sea Fleet Diving School, which had been evacuated from Sevastopol and sent to Slyudianka, a town located on the shore of Lake Baikal, in 1941.
The themed tours were held daily from May 6 to 11. In addition, visitors could learn about heroic deeds performed by scientists of the Russian Far East from guided highlight tours.
