Primorsky Aquarium to celebrate its birthday this coming Sunday

On Sunday, September 3, the Primorsky Aquarium will turn 7 years old. It was on this date in 2016 that the facility’s official opening took place, with President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Prime-Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and some other high officials in attendance.

The Primorsky Aquarium is a branch of the A. V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology FEB RAS. It is the first and only Russia’s public aquarium that is within the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In honor of its birthday, the facility will host music concerts in the lobby of its Main Building on September 3 at 10 am and 2 pm. The concerts will feature students from the Primorsky branch of the Central Music School - Academy of Performing Art.

Young musicians –  winners of different national and international music competitions – will perform works by Russian and foreign composers. The program will include works of A. Glazunov, M. Glinka, J. S. Bach, N. Metner, W. Mozart, S. Rachmaninoff, P. Sarasate, F. Chopin, C. Chaminade, P. I. Tchaikovsky and J. Field. The concerts will be emceed by winners of international music competitions – Galina Grebenyuk and Anstasia Shish.

In addition, the public are being invited to participate in an educational quiz posted on the Primorsky Aquarium’s social media accounts. The quiz contains a number of Aquarium-related questions. The participant who will be the first to successfully complete it will receive free admission for 4 to the Aquarium (please note that the quiz language is Russian).
